How do I wipe my MacBook Pro to sell?

The biggest fear that comes in our mind before selling our MacBook is— How to wipe data from our system isn’t it? So let’s jump into the topic to find out how we can do it. There are some easy steps that we are going to follow now.

First for our data safety and backing up of our existing data for restoring in future time we need to back up our data to any external hard drive, or you may use cloud storage.

So Now we can begain :

Step 1:iMessage

iMessage is an instant messaging service developed by Apple. So if you have paired your MacBook with iMessage you have to sign out from it.
Open the Messages app > then choose Messages > Preferences from the menu bar Click on iMessage, then click Sign Out.

Step 2: iCloud

iCloud is a cloud-storage and cloud-computing service that is being provided across Apple devices. To sign out from iCloud click on Apple menu > System Preferences > then click on Apple ID > scroll down and Select iCloud > then click Sign Out.

Step 3: Music app

Sign out from MacBook music > Click Account in the menu bar on the left side > Then just do Sign Out.

Step 4: Totally erase Hard drive of our MacBook

  • Restart your system or turn off then turn on your system
  • While it is turning on, hold two keys simultaneously “Command+R”
  • If there is required for password enter it
  • Then Select Disk Utility
  • Click continue

When all these steps are done, you gonna have some more steps to complete

  • Click on View.
  • Click on Show all Devices
  • Now find your Startup disk
  • Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar
  • Then Click the Erase button in the toolbar and enter the requested details: Name: Macintosh HD | Format: APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
  • Select the data disk under the startup disk
  • Click Edit in the Mac screen’s upper left corner in the menu bar
  • Click Delete “APFS” Volume from the menu bar or click the Remove button in the disk utility bar
  • In case the Erase Group Volume button appears > click on erase all of the volumes associated with the drive
  • now Confirm by clicking Delete when prompted.
  • Click Done when prompted.
